Free to paid subscribers! (scroll down for access)

This workshop is all about how to prepare for the day-to-day job of being a TV Staff Writer.

What should you expect on your first day? What work is done in the room vs out of the room? What does a showrunner expect, and how can you become an indispensable member of the writing staff?

In this workshop, we’ll cover:

  • How to prepare for your first day on the job, your first script assignment, first notes session, and more

  • How to identify what your specific writer’s room needs, and how to step in to fill in those gaps

  • How to collaborate with a large creative team under the stress of a deadline

  • The 4 steps you can take at every stage of the process to make sure you become an integral part of the writer’s room

  • Live Q&A for attendees

There will be a replay available, so if you sign up but have to leave early, or can’t make the live stream, you can still watch the recording at the same link.

Free to paid subscribers as a thanks for supporting this space - unlocked at the bottom of this post.

NOTE: I’m giving free access to paid subscribers of this substack in good faith that you won’t sign up and then unsubscribe after the class. Hey, it’s an imperfect system. But I trust that you’re here to build community and skills for the long run. If you prefer to only purchase the workshop, you can do so here:

What qualifies me to teach this workshop?

(You should ask this of everyone you work with!)

I’ve built this class from my personal experience in various roles in writers rooms, from first-time Staff Writer to Head Writer and Co-EP. From working at the board in the writers room, to turning in drafts on tight deadlines, production and tone meetings and covering set. My credits include Final Space (Adult Swim), Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts (Netflix), Die Hart 2 (Roku), Kung Fu Panda: the Dragon Knight (Netflix) as well as freelance work on various series, development with networks and studios, and more.

Alongside my career as a screenwriter and producer, I have taught writing classes for the past four years and have worked with over 1,000 writers and students to help them toward their goals.

When you take a class with me, you’re getting the information, tools, and perspective that I wish someone could have taught me when I was getting started, and at a price I wish I could have paid. This class can’t get you the job, but it can help you walk into your first day with the confidence and tools to help you do your best work.

Hope to see you at the workshop!
